Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve covered just about everything that we can think of below, but it’s a large page. To search this page for your question, we suggest hitting the control and f keys at the same time. This will bring up a search box in the upper right of your screen. Type in the main word of your question in there (for example, lump charcoal) and it will show if your topic is covered. If not, feel free to contact us here. You can also see our full manual here.
Getting Started FAQs:
Q: I can’t find my question below. Where can I find out more information on BBQitALL?
A: Please visit BBQITALL.COM for a more info.
Q: What if my barbecue is not round or is not any of the sizes mentioned on page 4?
A: Please visit BBQITALL.COM for a complete list of all barbecues that can fit BBQitALL.
Q: Where is BBQitALL made?
A: We proudly make BBQitALL in the USA with U.S. made materials and labor.
Q: Wouldn’t it be cheaper if you made it overseas?
A: We designed BBQitALL with a patented process that greatly reduces our costs for the very purpose of making a competitively priced U.S. made product. We believe making BBQitALL in the U.S. allows us to be more and responsive to our customers by constantly improving our products.
Q: Can BBQitALL be used for direct grilling?
A: Yes. See direct cooking methods on page 4.
Q: Can I use lump charcoal in BBQitALL?
A: Yes. Lump will burn about 25-50 degrees hotter and will burn for a shorter time. See the trouble shooting section for more tips on using lump charcoal.
Q: Are there alternatives to lighting with a starter chimney?
A: See page 3 for instructions using starter cubes. If cubes are used, we recommend using Weber® lighter cubes. We don't recommend use using lighter fluid. Lighter fluid will not allow even fire paths necessary for indirect cooking.
Q: What is the air flow foil? Do I need it?
A: The air flow foil evenly distributes air to each fire path during indirect cooking, allowing them to burn evenly. Not using it may keep fire paths from burning evenly or burn out out during cooking.
Assembly FAQs:
Q: I lost a part. Can I get a replacement?
A: Only the screws and nuts are replaceable. Buy screws or nuts your local hardware store. Use stainless steel 8/32 nuts and 8/32 by 1/4”long screws. Do not use zinc or nickel plated screws.
Q: My BBQitALL is too small to fit in a 26" kettle. Can I buy additional segments.
A: To keep administrative costs down, we do not sell individual segments. We have a special BBQitALL available for the 26" Weber kettle. If you have a 14", consider giving two sections to your friends. We think they'll love it.
General Usage FAQs:
Q: What kind of metal is used to make BBQitALL?
A: BBQitALL is made from 100% stainless steel.
Q: Why is BBQitALL’s stainless steel so thin?
A: Thicker material takes more time and energy to heat up, which robs the barbecue of heat. Also, thicker stainless steel is much more difficult for people to bend into a ring during assembly.
Q: Can I skip using the firewalls?
A: Yes. Allow enough space between the paths when lighting to prevent one path lighting the other.
General Usage FAQs:
Q: The ring got bent. Can I fix it??
A: Yes. The BBQitALL ring can be bent back into shape by hand. Wear gloves and eye protection when bending BBQitALL by hand.
Q: Should I adjust the amount of charcoal I load into BBQitALL to adjust the temperature?
A: The best way to control the temperature is by the amount of paths burning and by adjusting the vent’s, not by adding more or less fuel. BBQitALL works best when fully loaded with fuel. See the detailed cooking instructions on page 4 for details on size, fuel and temperature suggestions.
Q: If I finish cooking before all the fuel is burnt, can I save it somehow?
A: Yes, Just close the vents and wait until the fuel is completely out and cool, so that it can be reused. Note that all vents must be fully functional and tight in order to properly extinguish the fuel.
Q: What if I don’t want to load the entire ring? Can I just load the amount of charcoal I need?
A: Yes, but for proper burn and temperature, always fill with charcoal all the way up to the grill supports (see page 3). Alternatively, fill a complete path and close the vents when finished. Unlit coals can be reused. Vents must be tight to extinguish coals.
Q: BBQitALL turned a golden brown or blue color after I used it. Is there a problem?
A: No. Stainless steel turns colors dependent on the temperature it is brought to when heated. This is normal and does not affect the operation of the BBQitALL. If desired, the coloration can be mostly restored with a Scotch-Brite™ pad and cleaned.
Q: I noticed some unburnt fuel when cooking with the indirect cooking method. Why is that? Can I reuse the unburnt pieces again?
A: Yes, see above. This can happen because of the random placement of the charcoal, especially when using lump charcoal due to its uneven size.
Q: Can I burn wood in the BBQitALL instead of charcoal or lump charcoal?
A: Raw or dried wood should not be used. It will burn too fast and create too much smoke. The old cowboy cooking technique of burning wood works well in an open pit, but not so much in a kettle.
Q: Can I add wood chips to the charcoal for smoking or adding flavor during cooking?
A: Yes. Wood chips can be distributed across the top of the lump or regular charcoal path so that they will release smoke during all, or parts of the cooking process. Use them sparingly. Charcoal imparts a subtle smoky flavor to food without any chips.
Q: Can I cook bread or cake using BBQitALL? How do I keep them from getting a smoky flavor during cooking?
A: Yes, see indirect set up on page 4. We think most foods are better with a little smokiness, but if less smoke flavor is desired, covering your item with foil during cooking will help.
Q: Can I used match light charcoal?
A: No. Match light charcoal will light completely around the ring, creating dangerous temperature and fire conditions.
